Stirling Historical Society of Greenport


The Stirling Historical Society of Greenport is a cornerstone of local history with a vast archive of photographs, memorabilia, artifacts and more. Formed in 1946 by Col. Walter W. Burns and other Greenport residents, and in 1973 Mr. and Mrs. Fred Preston donated the former Margaret E. Ireland home to the Society who converted and opened it in 1979 as The Margaret E. Ireland House Museum. This must visit museum will take you back in time and provide a snapshot of Greenport life in bygone days.

The Stirling Historical Society of Greenport has brought together a diverse group of Greenporters with one common goal – to preserve and maintain the history of the Village of Greenport and its historic buildings, waterfront and surrounding areas for the betterment of the community and all to enjoy.
