Mudd’s Vineyards
Mudd’s Vineyards viticulture expert, vineyard development / management consultant and farmer Steve Mudd planned to follow in his father’s footsteps in the airplane business but instead took a turn with him into the world of grapes. Around 1973, serendipity paired Dave and Steve Mudd with Alex and Louisa Hargrave who planted the first vinifera grapes on Long Island to make wine – the Mudd’s piggybacked their rootstock order and planted too.
Steve Mudd has helped plant half of the Long Island wine industry, including Sherwood House Vineyard, Lieb, and many more. His breadth of knowledge and experience is recognized through out the region. A toast to the man who helped make Long Island Wine Country.
